Not always able to get the open price. Also, in some instances I waited for a day to see if there was a "confirmation" of upward movement before buying in.
These are real life trades - won't always match the backtesting.

Kevin, I'm curious about what other software you're using besides SF to backtest your filters. Is it Warden TC2000 or something similar? Any comments about it's usefulness or flexibility compared to SF backtesting?
I'm interested in evaluating filtering systems that allow a combination of fundamentals with technicals, so am curious about what you're using. I know there are a lot of different softwares out there but it's not easy finding independent opinions about what the pros and cons of them are.
TIA

Optimization was done using Investor/RT from linnsoft.com. Good piece of software. Cost is about $50 a month, but you will need a datafeed if you want to use in intraday.
I got the EOD version, basically just to optimize stuff. I'm done now, so I will freeze my subscription for a while.

Kevin:
Because of you I have taken out a paid subscription to SF. I was impressed with your honesty and response to the questions
you answered. This scan is a great scan, it covers most of what I have been searching for. I'll be following your posts like a hound dog chasing a bunny. Keep up the good work. Being a newbie I'll attempt to load your criteria and run a scan.
Trade safe,
gabestogie

I appreciate your kind words. In all honesty I have learned from others here, and also I think that SF is worth many times over the $25 a quarter I pay for a subscription. This is a fantastic resource for anyone who is interested in trading.
Glad to help you if I can.

Kevin-
Thanks for sharing this strategy. I'll run some backtests this weekend and hopefully will have more insight to contribute. When you ran your backtest (for example, the last one you posted starting on 5/8/09), were you using the current IBD100 list or the list from 5/8/09? Thanks.

1. Please check your exit criteria. I do not use any stops at all in the backtest (no stop loss, no trailing stop, no profit stop.)
2. I only hold 50 trades at any time (versus the default 250). Only 10 trades per day (versus the default 25). I do this for money management reasons - no more than 2% of my trading capital in on any trade.
3. Stocks are selected by volume descending (default).
4. Sell is at the open on the next day (that is the default). Same thing for the Buy.
