Hear ya JP.We just returned from vacation in St Augustine,FL.This is the oldest city in the US and when Pedro Menendez founded it in 1565 he and his men held the first Catholic mass in the US at that time.Go see this wonderful place.

just the official languages, English and French, I can get by with Spanish, Italian and Latin. I have never met anyone that spoke the languages you mentioned.

That's my point -- the English and French were immigrants at one point. English and French wouldn't be your official languages if THEY had learned the languages of the peoples that lived there first.
